Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers Calls on ANSU VC

Recently, the Chairman, Anambra State branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Mr. Paul Obiorah, with some state Executive members, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Anambra State University, Professor Fidelis Okafor. In his address, Mr. Obiorah called an he Anambra State
University to Start an undergraduate programme in Estate Management in order to give more opportunities
to Students who wish to read the course, since the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka and the Federal
Polytechnic Oko are the only two institutions in the State that offer the course at the moment.
Mr. Obiorah said that whenever the University wants to start the programme, the National body of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, the Estate Surveyors’ Registration Board of Nigeria as well as the State branch of the Institution, would help to ensure its successful take-off.
Contributing, Professor Egolum of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka and a member of the Institution, noted that job opportunities abound for graduates of the Programme, instead of waiting for civil service employment. He also showed willingness to offer his services to facilitate the accreditation process. Professor Egolum recalled that he spearheaded the take- off of the Programme in the old Anambra State University of Science and Technology (ASUTECH) in the eighties and Nnamdi Azikiwe University in the early nineties.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, noted that the visit of the members of the Institution and their offer of assistance, raised hopes for better things to come to the University. Professor Okafor Pointed out that usually, many visitors would ask for what the University would do for them, instead of what they would do for the University.
The Vice Chancellor promised to take the offer to the University’s Governing Council and Senate for further action. Adding his voice, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Professor Ndu Umeche, said he was excited at the offer and assured that accommodation for the new department was available, once approved.
In a Vote of thanks, Mr Ejike Okeke, a member of the institution and Estate Officer of the University, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his openness and reiterated the readiness of the Institution to keep its promise of assistance in the take off of a programme in Estate Management.
