By Christopher Ohaerisim

The second edition of the COOU Mentorship Clinique Workshop was successfully held on Thursday, 29th January, 2026 at the Faculty of Social Science Boardroom, Igbariam Campus.

The event recorded a strong turnout of staff across faculties and units, reflecting the growing interest in mentorship, research growth and career development in the university.

Recall the COOU Mentorship Clinique is a recent initiative introduced and designed to support staff development in line with the Values, Viability, and Visibility agenda of the Vice-Chancellor, Kate Azuka Omenugha fnipr.

The workshop featured two well-structured and practical sessions.

The first session focused on TETFund Training Experiences. COOU staff who had participated in TETFund Capacity Building Programmes shared their experiences and lessons learned.

The presentations covered:

(a) Capacity building using the Triple Helix approach, delivered by Dr Uba Bright Obidinma and Dr Stella Chinyere Afulukwe.

(b) Research administration practices for beneficiary universities, presented by Dr Okosa Chike Benjamin, Dr Earnest Oghenesuvwe Erhirhie, and Dr Blessing Chugo Idigo.

The session provided clear guidance on how staff can benefit from TETFund opportunities and apply best practices to strengthen research and administration within the University.

The second session addressed COOU Appraisal preparation, completion and Processing. Members of the COOU Visibility Committee, led by Prof. Osita Chiaghanam and supported by Dr Earnest Oghenesuvwe Erhirhie, gave step-by-step explanations on completing the appraisal form in line with the new guidelines.

The session clarified common errors, highlighted key expectations, and offered practical advice aimed at improving compliance and appraisal outcomes.

The event was interactive, informative, and well-received. Participants commended the clarity of the presentations and the openness of the discussions.

The University community looks forward to more editions of the COOU Mentorship Clinique, as the initiative continues to support staff development.
