COOU ADVANCES TECHNOLOGICAL FRONTIERS AS IT SIGNS MoU WITH DIGITAL HANDS

We are witnessing it firsthand. Who would have imagined a time when COOU would take such a deliberate and intensive interest in technology? Yet, considering the vast institutional vision embodied by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, it has become increasingly clear that digitalisation and technological advancement rank high among her core priorities for the University.

Yesterday, 21st January, 2026, at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room, the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Hands, Engr. Nkem Orakwe, accompanied by Prof. K. K. Nwozor, was received by the University Management to finalise an agreement aimed at boosting technological development within the institution. This engagement culminated in the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both parties on the same day.

Speaking during the event, the CEO of Digital Hands, Engr. Nkem Orakwe, commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, for her evident passion and strong resolve to drive progress, particularly in the area of technology.

He further noted that globally recognised digital solutions such as Paystack were conceptualised and developed by just two individuals within a university environment before evolving into multi-million-dollar platforms. According to him, this reality clearly highlights the immense potential that exists within academic institutions. He stated that Digital Hands is partnering with the University to nurture, challenge, and empower technologically inclined students, pushing them to the limits of their creativity and competence. The signed agreement, he affirmed, provides a structured framework to ensure the realisation of this vision.

In her response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, reiterated that the University is already firmly positioned on the path of technological innovation, adding that the partnership with Digital Hands would only serve to further strengthen and accelerate that trajectory.

This development followed earlier directives by the Vice Chancellor to Prof. John Paul Iloh— Director, ICT, who was tasked with a comprehensive review of the documents to ensure mutual clarity, understanding, and alignment with the terms of the agreement by both parties.
