Faculty History

Tracing our journey through academic history

Date of Creation: Originally part of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts became an autonomous unit upon the university's establishment. Initially comprising four departments—English, Religion, Igbo, and Philosophy—the Faculty expanded to include Music, Theatre Arts, and History.
Significant Contributions:
Played a crucial role in the university's growth, particularly in supporting other faculties through the General Studies Unit and the Faculty of Education.
Established itself as a hub for academic excellence through dedicated scholarship and rigorous academic pursuits.
Organized numerous academic events, including conferences, seminars, and workshops, fostering intellectual discourse.
Published various academic materials, such as journals and proceedings, contributing to scholarly knowledge.
Faculty members actively participate in national and international conferences, enhancing research and professional development.
Currently comprises seven departments with a robust student and staff population.
All programs have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
