About Our University

Our History

Anambra State University of Science and Technology (as it was then called) was established by Law No. 13 of 2000 by the Anambra State Government. Conceived as a two-campus institution with its main site at Uli (formerly Ekwenugo Okeke Polytechnic) and the second campus at Igbariam (formerly College of Agriculture), the University inherited the assets and liabilities of the Polytechnic. In 2006, the College of Agriculture was relocated to Mgbakwu, giving COOU full access to the Igbariam site.

Evolution Timeline

• 2000 – Establishment

  Founded as Anambra State University of Science and Technology, with Uli and Igbariam campuses.

• 2006 – Name Change

  Amendment Law changed the name to Anambra State University, introducing a three-campus structure including Alor.

• 2010 – Expansion

  The College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital was legally backed to create a third campus at Awka.

• 2008 – Present

  New programmes such as Music, Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, and Urban & Regional Planning were approved. Faculties were de-merged for specialization and growth.
