The Southeast Education Transformation Conference (SEEDUCON) 2024 is a strategic gathering of educational institutions at all levels, key stakeholders and policymakers, and educators across Southeast Nigeria to engage and connect, global education communities, innovators and visionaries to address the future of education, x-ray the inadequacies of the traditional educational model and chart a course towards a transformative, productive and exportable education for the youth in the Southeast region, with a special focus on “UmuAkwukwo Ndi Igbo”.
Briefing COOUNewS, the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Mrs Chinwe Nweke, informed that the Southeast region’s future hinges on the quality of education provided to its citizens, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, asserting that we are in a world, where education is the cornerstone of progress and innovation.
“… Our classrooms should no longer be about, rote learning, chalk and talk show. The classrooms are incubators of the future, the teachers and learners are expected to embrace changes that are dynamic and diverse. We believe that the conference will transform the educational landscape in the States as we set the stage that will navigate through the challenges and opportunities presented by technology in education…” Mrs. Chinwe stated.
The conference further seeks to bring about systemic and institutionalized change in the education sector with the spotlight on inclusive and equitable development, lifelong learning, AI, digital accessibility, personalization of learning experiences, and the promotion of youth productivity and exportable skills.
The Conference which is billed to hold from the 30th – of 31st October 2024, targets all key stakeholders and policymakers in the education sector in the Southeast, including University Vice Chancellors, Deans of Faculties of Education and other faculties, Heads of Computer Science and Entrepreneurship, Federal and State Education Ministries and Agencies, Private School Owners and Associations.
Others are; School Managers, Education Secretaries, Principals/Head Teachers, Teachers, Students, Parents, local government education Secretaries, Community Leaders, International agencies supporting education, ICT agencies (including NCC and NITDA), and the Creative Economy.
Speaking to COOUNewS, the Ag. Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, stated that as a partner institution, COOU will mobilize and support the conference because of the important role of education in our society.
“… we cannot underestimate the role of education in any society. It is at the very core of human development and we are excited to see that the conference will be a veritable ground for intellectual harvest, networking and collaborations…” She said.
Prof. Nneka Nnorom, Dean, the Faculty of Education, COOU will serve as Chairman of the University Committee for the Conference. Other members of the Committee include; Pro. K. K. Nwozor, Prof. Njideka Ebisi, and Dr Harrison Madubueze.
