On Friday, 29th August, 2025, the National Alumni Body of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) led by its National President, Dr. Dubem Oguegbu, paid a courtesy visit to the 5th Substantive Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, to congratulate her on her confirmation as Vice Chancellor.
During the visit, Dr. Oguegbu described Prof. Omenugha’s appointment as “a square peg in a square hole,” commending her leadership style and her motherly disposition since assuming office. He highlighted that within a short period, the Alumni body has experienced what he called the highest bullish trend under her administration—an indication of inclusiveness, openness, and genuine concern for the welfare of both students and alumni. He assured that the Alumni are fully committed to supporting her vision and ensuring her administration succeeds.
In her response, Prof. Omenugha expressed deep gratitude to the Alumni body, noting that their presence and goodwill make her feel truly at home. She emphasized that a university is only as strong and as rich as its alumni, describing them as ambassadors and stakeholders who hold the key to shaping the institution’s future.
She further noted that COOU under her watch is guided by the 3Vs – Visibility, Value, and Viability – and assured the Alumni that their support aligns perfectly with the University’s transformative agenda of being the Now University and of the Future. She called on the Alumni to deploy their networks, expertise, and social capital to advance COOU, stressing that partnerships with alumni are central to building a vibrant academic community, attracting resources, and strengthening the University’s public-private linkages.
Prof. Omenugha also expressed appreciation for the warm reception and gifts she recently received from the Abuja Alumni branch, acknowledging their consistent commitment and contributions over the years. She reiterated that with the continued support of the Alumni body, COOU is poised to scale greater heights, expand its global reach, and build a legacy worthy of its name.
It is worth recalling that the University’s Alumni body, through various chapters, has over time contributed immensely to the growth and development of the institution. From supporting infrastructural projects to promoting academic excellence and student mentorship, the Alumni have remained a vital part of COOU’s progress. Prof. Omenugha reassured them that her administration will continue to carry them along as partners in the journey of repositioning COOU for global relevance.
