COOU Management Joins Iduu Eri Kingdom to Celebrate World Eri Festival

On November 1, 2025, the management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, joined the people of Iduu Eri Kingdom to celebrate the World Eri Festival—a grand annual event held in honour of Eri, the progenitor of the Igbo race.

This year’s festival was themed “The Historical, Geographical, Anthropological, Biblical and Migration Factors as Valid Foundational Social Links in Resolving the Common Human Ancestral Features between the Jewish/Igbo Origin and the Igbo of East and West of the Niger Rivers of Nigeria.” The event brought together scholars, traditional leaders, and cultural enthusiasts to reflect on the shared ancestry and historical identity of the Igbo people.

During the celebration, His Majesty, Eze Dr. Chukwuemeka Eri (Eze di Gboo! Ezeora 34th) offered prayers for the Vice Chancellor and the University. He prayed that God would continue to show mercy upon the institution and its leadership, commending Prof. Omenugha for her visionary guidance and commitment to the University’s 3Vs Agenda—Values, Viability, and Visibility—which, he said, is steadily placing the University on the global map.

Prof. Omenugha attended the event with members of the University Management Team, including Prof. Anselm Nweke, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Obiorah Ejiofor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development and Uli Campus Affairs), the University Registrar; Sir Chris Obi, the University Bursar; Dr. Nath Udezo, the University Librarian; Dr. Uche Enweani, the Immediate Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics; Prof. Osita Chiaghanam, the Director of International Linkages and Collaboration; Prof. Ngozi Joe-Ikechebelu, Prof. Nwobi-Okoye, the Chairman Hostel committee; Prof. Njideka Ebisi, the Head of Department Igbo/Linguistics; Dr. Chisom Okafor, the Public Relations Officer; Dr. Harrison Madubueze and the PA to the Vice Chancellor; Engr. Ebuka Nwagwu.

The event reaffirmed the University’s commitment to cultural heritage, research, and community engagement, aligning with Prof. Omenugha’s vision of promoting education that resonates with identity, history, and human values.
