On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the Department of Religion and Human Relations at the Faculty of Arts, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, marked a significant milestone by conferring Ph.D. degrees upon its inaugural graduates. This occasion is particularly noteworthy as it signifies the department’s pioneering venture into postgraduate programs.
Dike Chikwuemeka Justin and Ibe Michael Chukwuebuka emerged as the distinguished candidates who successfully defended their Ph.D. theses. Under the scrutiny of the external examiner, Rev. Fr. Prof. B.A.C Obiefuna, and guided by the leadership of the Head of Department, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Ezeogamba, the candidates delved into critical topics.
Dike Chikwuemeka Justin’s dissertation explored the Osu Caste System in Igboland through the lens of Christian social teaching and Human Rights. Simultaneously, Ibe Michael Chukwuebuka’s research scrutinized poverty in Nigeria (2000-2021) within the framework of human rights discourse and Christian social teaching.
