PhD Admission

PhD Programme:

To be eligible, prospective applicants to the PhD program of the Department, must, in addition to the requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies, and the minimum Departmental requirements, fulfil one or more of the following;

  1. Be a holder of the Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Architecture of COOU or any other university recognized by COOU and have obtained a CGPA of at least 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 60% average score.
  2. An adult student with a lower CGPA may be admitted on the recommendation of the Postgraduate Board of the Department of Architecture if they possess requisite professional experience and Professional Practice Certification of the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria.
  3. Transfer Candidates: A student duly registered in a Doctoral Programme of a University recognized by the Senate of COOU may be admitted on transfer status to the Doctoral Programme at a reduced duration or granted waiver in some specific area of the programme on the recommendation of the Postgraduate Board of the Department of Architecture. Such students must not have finished the field study seminar of any of the study methods of course work or research.
  4. Young graduates with lower CGPA and with evidence of promising scholarship may be admitted into MSc/PhD programme in the department to make up for deficiencies.
  5. Each situation will be treated purely on its merit.
  6. Goal Statement: Each applicant must submit as part of the application a goal statement.

 

In all cases, however, candidates for various degrees offered by the Department will be required to fulfil the general degree requirements of the University and to pursue courses prescribed and satisfy the examiners in the subjects shown in the curriculum
