Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, on Thursday 7th December 2023, warned that the University’s Postgraduate programmes will witness some disruptions in order to strengthen the quality of the postgraduate programmes and Candidates that are being graduated.
She made the statement while interacting with the Postgraduate Students at the ETF Auditorium in Igbariam Campus.
The meeting with the students began after a two-hour closed-door meeting with the Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. M. N. Chendo, where she was adequately briefed about the School of Postgraduate Studies.
Speaking to COOUNews shortly after the meeting, Prof. Omenugha explained that the strengths of any institution are also predicated on the quality of Postgraduate Students that are being graduated from the institution. She explained that while it is expedient that students graduate in record time, it is also important that emphasis is paid to quality.
“… We will never tolerate a situation where people abuse laid down rules for flimsy reasons. While dialoguing with professors on the 6th of December, We warned against the exploitation of students, and it is important to emphasize again that attention must be paid to quality. I commend the Postgraduate School for their efforts so far and we must sustain the culture of graduating as at when due and to do that, all hands must be on deck because we must stick to the Regulations of PG School. Faculties and Departments must henceforth ensure that the right things are done, and I can assure you that people must finish their programs in record time as long as they don’t compromise standards…” She said.
Meeting with the students, She talked about the value system, vision, and mission of the University insisting that it’s time to pay attention to those things that make COOU unique by being intentional and passionate about our Institution. She called on the students to go and learn the University Anthem meditate on the lyrics and see the beauty of COOU in it.
“… We can assure you that one of our biggest strengths is the uninterrupted academic calendar, and we must sustain it while improving on other weaknesses. We will review your various suggestions and ensure we do everything possible to strengthen our programs…” She concluded.
