SSANU South-East Zone Pays Courtesy Visit to Acting Vice Chancellor
The South-East Zonal leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The visit coincided with their Zonal Meeting held at the University’s ETF Building.
Engr. Comrade Okey Animba, National Vice President (South-East Zone) of SSANU, led the delegation and, in his address, began with a solidarity song in honor of the Acting Vice Chancellor. He commended her for what he described as a “feminine touch” that is evidently transforming the University. He praised her unique leadership style, especially her attentiveness to staff welfare, remarking that she “knows her flock even by their voices” — a quality he noted as rare among university leaders.

Comrade Animba also presented some of the key challenges facing SSANU members at the University and expressed hope that the current administration would address them. He concluded by offering prayers for her confirmation as the substantive Vice Chancellor, describing her as “a welfare-focused leader with a listening ear.”
In her response, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr expressed appreciation for the visit and the show of solidarity from the SSANU South-East leadership. She acknowledged the vital role played by non-teaching staff in the administration and overall functionality of the University, emphasizing that without them, the institution cannot operate effectively. She reiterated the University’s commitment to the highest standards of ethical conduct, especially from its administrative workforce.

Highlighting her vision for the institution, she introduced the 3V” guiding her administration—Values, Viability, and Visibility—and reaffirmed the University’s forward-looking identity as the Now University and of the Future. She stressed the need for staff to embrace technology and digital literacy as essential tools for aligning with the University’s progressive agenda.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor appealed for continued patience and understanding from SSANU, assuring them that staff welfare remains a top priority for her administration. She noted that efforts are ongoing to address various staff concerns, and the University Management will not relent until significant progress is achieved.
She further encouraged SSANU members to invest in continuous capacity building, emphasizing that personal development would not only benefit the University but also empower them individually.
