Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, graced the 17th Convocation Ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University on Friday being December 8th, 2023.
During the event, she extended congratulations to Prof. Charles Esimone, Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Vice Chancellor, commending him for his inspirational leadership. Prof. Omenugha urged him to continue his commendable efforts, emphasizing the university’s rich tradition of hard work, societal contributions, sacrifices, focus, and healthy competition.
In an interview with COOUNEWS, Prof. Omenugha highlighted the impressive track record of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in producing outstanding individuals. She praised the culture of excellence fostered by creative Lecturers, Deans, and Vice Chancellors, including Prof. Esimone, who has been a strong supporter. In her words;
“…we have learnt the culture of hard work, we have learnt the culture of giving back to the society, we have learnt the culture of making sacrifices, we have actually learnt the culture of being keeping eyes on the ball and that culture of healthy competition between Faculties and Departments whereby they try to surpass each other. We have very creative lecturers and creative deans, and we have also had Vice Chancellors who have done so well and including our own Vice Chancellor, Prof. Esimone, who has been a pillar of support to me in particular and everything I have tried doing, he has supported me so well. For him, It is a testimony that all the things that we are doing in UNIZIK is actually paying off…”
She reiterated her commitment to driving positive change at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, expressing passion for the role and quoting Mother Theresa’s philosophy of starting change at an individual level.
Prof. Omenugha, a globally recognized professor, emphasized her competence and international visibility, indicating a promising trajectory for COOU. She underscored her determination to transform the university’s culture, vision, and mission, citing the commencement of engagement with passionate members to propel COOU, which is on MOVE.
