COOU Staff Participate in TETFund Research for Impact Initiative Workshop in Abuja

Four members of staff of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) are participating in a 10-day TETFund-sponsored Research for Impact Initiative (R4I) Workshop in Abuja, aimed at strengthening research, innovation and the practical application of research outcomes.

The participants are Prof. Uchechukwu Vincent Okpala, Engr. Dr. Achebe Patience Nkiruka, Dr. Chinyere Emmanuella Okafor, and Engr. Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Nwagwu. The workshop, which commenced on September 28, 2026, is being held at Innov8 Hub Tech, Airport Road, Abuja, and brings together researchers and innovators from tertiary institutions to explore ways of transforming research findings into practical solutions to real-world challenges.

The COOU team has been actively engaged in sessions focused on innovation, research commercialisation, prototype development and connecting research outcomes with industry and community needs.

The workshop has also provided an avenue for the COOU participants to exchange knowledge and experiences with researchers from other institutions while receiving practical guidance and mentorship on moving research beyond academic publications to measurable societal impact. Prof. Okpala brings his academic and leadership experience to the team, while Engr. Dr. Achebe contributes her expertise in innovation; Dr. Okafor has been actively engaged in discussions on translating research into meaningful outcomes, while Engr. Nwagwu focuses particularly on technology, innovation and prototype development. Their participation underscores COOU’s commitment to strengthening its research and innovation ecosystem and equipping its academic community to develop solutions that respond to societal needs.

The initiative aligns with the University’s strategic focus on the 3Vs of Values, Viability and Visibility, with the participants expected to return with knowledge and skills that can further contribute to impactful research and innovation at COOU and beyond.
