PART-TIME STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH COOU VC, INVITES HER TO THEIR FIRST ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor's office, the university's Part-Time Students’ Association visited and expressed appreciation for the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, describing her achievements as widely recognised and worthy of commendation. The association, led by its President Hon. Comrd Emenike John and presented by the Dean of the Part-Time Students’ Programme, Prof. Mathias Ananti, used the occasion to acknowledge the importance of establishing a structured body to represent part-time students and promote their collective interests.

Prof. Ananti explained that since the programme commenced in 2007, there had been no formal association for the students, a gap that contributed to confusion and made the creation of a unified platform necessary for stability, coordination and growth. The President Hon. Comrd Emenike John, while commending the Vice-Chancellor for her accomplishments, noted that her impact continued to resonate beyond the university and invited her to participate in the association’s forthcoming event, to be held on October 30, 2026. The opportunity was also used to introduce members of the executive council, including the Vice-President, Mrs. Peter Ndifreke, alongside the Secretary, Financial Secretary, Public Relations Officer, Director of Socials and the President-General of Igbariam, who is a part-time student of Criminology.

The visit also featured expressions of goodwill from the President-General, who offered prayers for God’s continued blessings upon Prof. Kate Omenugha and the success of her administration, as well as from the Onowu of Nteje, Chief Bennett Udeji Chinweze, who equally conveyed his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor. In recognition of her leadership and as part of efforts to strengthen the relationship between the association and the university management, the President extended a formal invitation to Prof. Omenugha to attend the association’s First Annual Symposium, which will be chaired by Mr. Elochukwu Gwacham.

The association further presented gifts to the Vice-Chancellor as a gesture of appreciation and solidarity with her administration. Beyond the formal courtesies, the engagement reflected the association’s desire to build a more organised and cohesive part-time student community while sustaining a strong relationship with the university management.
