PROF. KATE AZUKA OMENUGHA DONATES ₦500,000 TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH AND ESTABLISHES A SCHOLARSHIP IN HER HONOUR

If there is one thing the Department of English can proudly be credited for, it is the rare gift of turning the Vice Chancellor’s 61st birthday into a truly unforgettable experience.

This became evident when the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, in her address, described the occasion as the most remarkable birthday of her life. She noted that every moment of the celebration rekindled memories of her younger years and afforded her the rare privilege of interacting, performing, and sharing genuine moments with students, an experience she has long cherished.

According to her, the event embodied one of her deepest aspirations: a university environment where staff and students relate freely, creativity is encouraged, and the welfare of all members of the academic community is given equal priority.

Deeply moved by the lasting impression the occasion created, Prof. Omenugha announced a generous donation of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) to the Department of English. She further directed the Head of the Department, Dr. Ikechukwu Asika, to institute a scholarship award in her name for the Best Graduating Student of the Department of English.

The scholarship, she emphasized, is intended to encourage academic excellence, reward diligence, and sustain the values of scholarship and humanity which the department represents.

Congratulations to the Department of English on this remarkable milestone.
