Library Is The Heart Of The University

The Vice Chancellor of Anambra State University, Prof Fidelis Okafor has described the library as the heart of University System. The Vice Chancellor who made this declaration when the Anambra State chapter of Nigerian library Association paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Uli main campus stated that the level, nature and composition and the stock in the library shows the level of research and academic activity that take place there. It is therefore the first attraction to scholars that come into the University adding that the librarians are as important as the association they represent. An empty library is an index of non-research and non academic activity going on, Prof Okafor stressed.

On the national conference to be hosted by the state chapter (Anambra) in July 2011, Prof Okafor commended the state chairman and executive of the association for attracting such a conference to the state and pledged to assist in ensuring a successful hosting and wished them the best as they host the librarians in the country.

Earlier in her address to the ANSU Chief executive, the chairman, Anambra State chapter of Nigeria Library Association Mrs Nkem Osuigwe said the courtesy visit was to fraternize with Prof Okafor on his appointment as the VC of Anambra State University and to further intimate him of the hosting right granted Anambra State chapter of Nigerian Library Association to host the national conference of the association .

Mrs Osigwe requested among others; the presence of the Vice Chancellor to showcase the relevance of library in the university, sponsorship of the librarian to the conference particularly as the university, librarian, Dr Agbanu is the Vice Chairman of the state chapter and the chairman cultural committee of the association.

The University librarian, Dr Norbert Agbanu had earlier on the courtesy visit introduced the numbers of the Association both from outside and in the university. The visit was climaxed with prayer by a council member of the University, venerable Prof Israel Okoye, group picture and exchange of pleasantries.
