The  increasing   complexity  of  the  society  and  the    attendant  effects    on  the  environment  continues  to  expand  the  horizon  of  the  architectural  challenges  and  solution. With  this  in  mind,   the  programme   strongly focuses  on producing graduates  who  not  only  appreciate  this  situation  but  are  prepared physically, mentally, academically  and  emotionally  to  face   these  challenges.  Consequently,  the  programme  is  not  only  academically  integrated  but   also   physically  and  practically  exposure-oriented. To  achieve  this,  the  programme  emphasizes    arrangements    into  core  architectural  courses,  stress  areas, pre-requisite courses,  electives  and  the  integrated  field research  and  survey  approaches.  Although,  the   integrated  study   emphasizes   town,  community,  neighbourhood,  industrial  and  other  relevant  studies,  courses  on  safety,  housing  finance  and  project  management  and  other  relevant  areas  are  encouraged.  The  programme   based  on  the  Four-Plus-Two model   architectural  education   in  Nigeria   encourages  early  awareness  on  possible  areas  of  special  interests  and  specialization. Thus,  as  part  of  the  first  degree  programme   requirement,  each student  writes  a  dissertation  with  simple  research  tools  chosen  from  any  of  the  core  or  stress  areas  to  reinforce   the  integrated  research  experience.

At  the  postgraduate  level,  the  student  is  encouraged  to  do  the  research  project  thesis  with  advanced  research  tools  within  and  around  the  first  degree  dissertation  or  guided  properly  for  changes  if  any. This  may  eventually  be  the  likely  area  of  further  post  M.Sc.  research work.  Except  on  special  cases,  students  are   encouraged  to  proceed   to  the  National   Youth  Service   Scheme  only  after  the  postgraduate  programme.
