On Tuesday, 9th of April, under the leadership of Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, hosted an onboarding session for new Heads of Departments, Deans, and Directors of programs and was themed “Charting the Future for Team Building and Value Creation.”

Prof. Omenugha impassionedly urged total buy-in to the University’s vision and shared values, emphasizing the catalytic power of passion in fostering social capital and driving extraordinary growth. The dynamic Ag. Vice Chancellor underscored the need for an aggressive marketing and brand identity of the institution. She remembered that leadership is the capacity to translate a vision into reality.

The guest speaker Prof. Uche Amazigo while dissecting on the topic “Building Team Spirit to Achieve University Vision,” advocated for an innovative ethos and student empowerment, rooted in trust to yield impactful solutions. In her teaching, she encouraged them on the need for an innovative culture as well as allowing the students to blossom which is only possible by giving them the opportunity to be trusted as that is the only way to get a solution. Hence, their relationship with the students matters and there is no point in underestimating and underrating them.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Osita Chiaghanam, dissected the topic “Understanding the Duties of the Heads of Department”, while University Acting Bursar, Dr. Nath Udezo, discussed the topic “Accountability, Transparency, and Budgeting: the Roles of Heads of Departments.”

Furthermore, representatives from TENECE, the university’s ICT service provider, elucidated operational modalities and addressed pertinent ICT concerns, ensuring a holistic understanding among department heads.

As the inaugural onboarding session concluded, Prof. Omenugha expressed optimism that newly appointed leaders would embody institutional values, champion viability, and enhance visibility, propelling the university towards unprecedented excellence.
