On Tuesday, the 26th of November , 2024, the Department of Architecture at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) played host to the Professional Accreditation Team from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). The team was warmly received on behalf of the Vice Chancellor by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof. Osita Chiaghanam who expressed gratitude for their visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to upholding professional and academic standards.
In his welcome address, Prof. Osita Chiaghanam highlighted the importance of professional accreditation in ensuring that the department remains a center of excellence in architectural education and practice. He emphasized the university’s dedication to fostering collaborations with ARCON to further elevate the department’s standing both nationally and internationally.
The Chairman of the ARCON team, Arc. Prof. Chukwuemeka B. Chukwudi, expressed appreciation for the university’s hospitality and proactive approach to accreditation. He underscored the critical role architecture plays in shaping society, noting that the accreditation exercise would ensure the department continues to produce competent professionals capable of meeting global standards.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Arc. Assoc. Prof. Stephen Ikpendu Nwankwo, who serves as the Secretary, reiterated the council’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the profession. He assured the university that the exercise would focus on promoting quality education and professional practices while offering constructive feedback where necessary.
