At Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, we do not just graduate students—we groom leaders, community builders, and global change-makers. True to our philosophy of excellence in character and learning, our graduates continue to make us proud across the nation and beyond.
One shining example is Brown-Ofoeme EbubeChukwu, a proud alumnus of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies, who is currently serving in Bayelsa State through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). During his service year, EbubeChukwu undertook a remarkable community development project that has earned him widespread recognition, including the title of “Uncommon Citizen” by national observers.
Moved by the deplorable condition of a local school in Swali, Yenagoa, where children were often drenched by rain during class due to a leaking roof, he decided to take action. His intervention led to the complete renovation of a four-classroom block at Community Primary School Swali, Yenegoa and a staff room. The renovation involved re-roofing the entire structure, installing PVC ceilings, replacing 9 doors and 24 windows, and repainting the building to restore a conducive learning environment.
But he didn’t stop there.
In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, Brown-Ofoeme also organized medical outreach programs for the local community, donated over 200 exercise books to pupils, and empowered women through vocational training initiatives.
His passion for social impact is rooted in his days at COOU, where he served as the President of the Department of Criminology and Security Studies and was also an active correspondent for COOUNEWS. His leadership journey, cultivated within the walls of our institution, continues to bear fruit in meaningful ways.
This aligns strongly with the vision of our Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, who has continually emphasized the importance of social capital—encouraging both staff and students to use their networks, skills, and passions to drive impact wherever they find themselves.
We wholeheartedly celebrate Brown-Ofoeme EbubeChukwu for representing the spirit and values of COOU. He is a true ambassador of the University’s commitment to nation-building, innovation, and excellence.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University not only remains the Pride of the Nation but The Now University and of the Future.
