COOU DEPUTY VICE ACADEMICS, PROF. O.I. CHIAGHANAM PRESENTS PAPER AT THE SCIENCE GRANTING COUNCIL INITIATIVE’S (SGCI) $250,000.00 IMPLEMENTATION SYMPOSIUM IN ABIDJAN, COTE D’IVOIRE

VALUES, VIABILITY, AND VISIBILITY [3Vs]

The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS)-led consortium, comprising of the Association of African Universities (AAU), and the University Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD), that is implementing the Science Granting Council Initiative (SGCI) project on supporting Councils to fund and manage research and innovation projects invited Prof. O.I. Chiaghanam to a three-day face-to-face second annual symposium.

The exercise started from 28th to 30th July 2025 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire. It was co-hosted with Le Fonds pour la Science, la Technologie et l’Innovation (FONSTI). The critical focus of the Symposium is to synthesize and showcase research outputs from the RIM project and to facilitate peer learning and the exchange of best practices.

This symposium presents a platform for high-level discussions on various themes including Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), Collaborations & Partnerships, Gender, Equality & Inclusion (GEI), Health, Energy, Climate Change, Agriculture, Industrialization, and Emerging Technologies. It also facilitated engagements with a global network of scholars, industry partners, government representatives, and intergovernmental organizations.

It also seeks to advance the SGCI’s mission of fostering a robust and dynamic STI landscape in Africa, driving innovation and collaborative progress across the continent as well as bring together representatives from all participating SGCs in Sub-Saharan Africa, along with other global and regional STI stakeholders, to support and contribute to this mission while emphasizing gender equity, and social inclusion in research and innovation.

Recall that in June 2024, alongside four other Research Team, Prof. Chighanam won the SGCI grant totaling $250,000.00 formed between the Research for Impact Initiative (R41) by Tertiary Education Trust Fund Tetfund and Innov8 Hub.

Excitedly, we celebrate Prof. Chiaghanam for being an ambassador of Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha’s shared-leadership anchored on the “3Vs” of Values, Viability, and Visibility which has showcased the University’s resilience and commitment to excellence.

Congratulations!
