We are happy to celebrate Prof. J.C. Ubayionwu of our Faculty of Law, on his elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC). The promotion was approved during the 169th Plenary Session held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, presided over by the esteemed Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON.
Prof. Ubayionwu joins a distinguished group of 56 other legal practitioners who have also achieved this honor, which is awarded to those who have shown remarkable excellence in legal advocacy or have made significant contributions to legal education and scholarship.
At COOU, we take great pride in Prof. Ubayionwu – the University’s 10th Inaugural Lecturer’s accomplishment. His Inaugural Lecture titled “Election petition in Nigeria: A Legal quagmire” which was contributory to this significant achievement was delivered on Wednesday February 21, 2024. We salute the ongoing commitment to excellence by Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha led management team forged through the “3Vs” of Values, Viability, and Visibility, hence, revived the inaugural lecture series in the university as a platform for distinguished Professors of COOU to showcase their scholarly mettle. The steady growth of our Inaugural Lecture Series from the 7th edition in 2023 to 24th edition as at July 2025, continues to shine as a testament to efforts towards intentional expansion of the knowledge frontiers in the institution.
Through the ongoing “3Vs” agenda, COOU is poised for greatness given the growing recognition and laurels received by students and staff, nationally and globally.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. J.C. Ubayionwu and the entire Law faculty of our esteemed university for achieving this historic milestone – our first Senior Advocate of Nigeria. It is our sincere hope that his advancement will inspire others to follow and that he will use his current position for the advancement of COOU – the Now University and of the Future.
