Programme Objectives

• To source superior students for the University’s degree programmes and reduce the high rate of dropouts from the University.
• To ensure adequate preparation of eligible secondary school graduates for University work.
• To enhance analytical and independent learning abilities and promote the intellectual development as well as oral and written skills of students.

Programme Duration

The duration of the Programme of courses for the Board’s Examination is a minimum of one academic session of two semesters. National examinations are held in August each year.

Eligibility 

To be eligible to take examinations leading to the award of JUPEB’s Direct Entry Certificates, the candidate must have been exposed to an intensive scheme of academic work relevant to his/her proposed university course.

• Each candidate must register, sit for Examinations and satisfy the Board in three subjects and a General Studies course relevant to the proposed course in any of the universities.
• Each subject is to be broken into four courses to be taken, two per semester, by the candidate. The results in all the courses are to be merged at the end of the second semester to obtain the candidate’s grade in that particular subject.
• The general Studies for courses in each University Faculty will be based on relevant General courses suggested for that Faculty by each university.
• The students upon completion of the programme will be issued certificates based on their level of performance which bear Letter Grades of A, B, C, D, E or F in each of the three subjects and General Studies Paper.

For admission into each university, each candidate, in addition to passing the prescribed JUPEB examinations for issuing the Direct Entry Certificates, must satisfy all other conditions as prescribed by his/her university of choice.

Programme Description

The programme is an intensive coaching curriculum aims at ensuring adequate exposure to fundamentals of concepts and preparation of eligible students for University direct entry admission and a good head-start for University work. The courses of study which are those of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) subjects include English Language which is compulsory for all students, Government, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, History, French, Igbo, Music, Visual Arts, Accounting, Business Studies, Physics, chemistry, Biology,  Agricultural Science. Students are required to choose three subjects in addition to English. The certificate obtained by graduates of the programme will be tenable in several universities in Nigeria and in some foreign universities.

Admission is based strictly on merit and entry requirements and in proportion to the admission quota of the University for the various Faculties. The results issued by the JUPEB are graded like Cambridge A/Level results: A (5 points), B (4 points), C (3 points), D (2 points), E (1 point), F (0 point). Three subjects are offered by each candidate. Combination of the grades forms the total point that is used as cut-off for the course applied for in a particular institution. For example, University of Benin can approve 13 points as the cut-off for Medicine and Surgery. That means, they can only admit candidates with either AAA (15 pts), AAB (14 pts), AAC (13 pts) or ABB (13 pts). Like Cambridge A/Level, the results of JUPEB do not expire. You can always use it to apply into same or another institution the following year. Candidates with JUPEB results can apply to JAMB for Direct Entry admission into 200 Level instead of the 100 Level for UTME.

Mode of Study

Face to face contact at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campuses. Lectures are intensive and run through Monday to Friday every week.

Entry Qualifications

Applicants for admission into JUPEB Programme must possess minimum of 5 Credits at maximum of two sittings in at least 5 subjects (inclusive of English Language) relevant to the candidate’s desired course of study in the University. Eligible candidates are selected for admission through an entrance examination or screening.                                           ACADEMIC MATTERS

The programme is designed for candidates who possess a minimum of five credits at not more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WAEC/NECO) General Certificate Examination, O/L (WAEC/NECO) OR NABTEB.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

Pay the application fee through remita payment platform at any bank. You are to generate a payment invoice which contains a remita number; the invoice printout will enable you to make your payment at the bank.

2. Click on JUPEB portal from the portal dropdown

• Click on generate application invoice

1. Input your phone number and submit to generate invoice
2. Make payment in any Bank
3. After payment, return to the portal

• Click on fill application, input your RRR to proceed with the application, fill the form and attach your passport
• Recent color passport photograph

1. Submit and print your slip
2. Precede to COOU JUPEB office Igbariam campus with your slip for processing.

REGISTRATION OF ADMITTED CANDIDATES

Candidates offered admission should present the following items to the JUPEB Unit for screening prior to registration.

1. Payment for acceptance of offer of admission
2. Evidence of payment of school fees (as determined by the University)
3. Original copies of certificates claimed/statements of results
4. Birth certificates/Baptismal cards
5. Letter of introduction/identification from candidates local government area
6. Letter of attestation

On successful screening, the candidate collects and fills the following items…

1. Admission letter
2. Acceptance of offer of admission
3. Clearance form
4. JUPEB registration form
5. Letter of undertaking
6. Personal Data form
7. Student placement form
8. Medical form
9. O’ level result
10. Local Government identification letter
11. Letter of attestation
12. Birth certificate or Baptismal card
13. JAMB direct entry slip
14. All receipts

SUBMISSION OF FILES

            The candidate submits a file containing

1. All the forms issued
2. Photocopies of all receipts
3. School fees
4. Hostel fees (where applicable)

CONDITIONS FOR PLACEMENT INTO THE REGULAR DEGREE PROGRAMME

1. Admission into JUPEB programme does not guarantee automatic admission into the regular University programme.
2. Candidates must satisfy individual programme cut-off mark before being considered for placement.
3. Placement is based on individual merit hinged on character and academic performance. 
4. Candidates involved in any anti-social behavior like acts of indiscipline, examination malpractice, cultism, assaulting or insulting staff, stealing, brawling, molesting other students etc, will not be considered for placement into the degree programme.

STUDENTS ACCOMODATION

Accommodation facilities are limited in the university and are allocated on first-come first-serve basis.

CONDITIONS FOR LIVING IN SCHOOL HOSTELS

1. Students are not permitted to embark on modifications/partitioning of any type in the hostels.
2. Squatters are not allowed in the hostels. This is necessary to prevent overcrowding which may lead to over stretching of the use of facilities.
3. Students should take responsibility for securing of personal items.
4. Cooking inside the hostels is prohibited. Students are not allowed to use gas cooker, heaters, and refrigerators in the hostels.
5. Smoking of any type and consumption of alcohol are prohibited in the hostels.
6. Students are surcharged for any damage to the facilities in the hostels.
7. The University does not provide food for students, however there are catering services provided by private entrepreneurs.

REGULATIONS GUIDING ENTRY OF VISITORS INTO HOSTELS

1. “VISITORS” in this context refers to anyone not resident in a particular hostel.
2. No male visitor shall be allowed into the rooms of female students and vice-versa.
3. All visitors must report to the security desk/porter on duty, make necessary entry in the visitors book and thereafter be directed to their (host/hostess) or have their host/hostess called out for them.
4. The visitor must sign out on leaving the hostel.
5. No student shall keep any visitor in his/her room over-night without written permission from the hostel supervisor.
