In line with her conviction that the growth of education cannot be left solely in the hands of government, but must also draw strength from private-sector collaboration, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, led a delegation on courtesy visits to two of the University’s honorary doctorate recipients—Engr. Dr. Chidozie Mbanefo and High Chief Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Umuawulu) on 25th August, 2025.
Prof. Omenugha explained that the visits were both symbolic and strategic, as it was her first personal meeting with them since assuming office as the 5th substantive Vice Chancellor of COOU. With excitement, she referred to them as “the Stars of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University”, stressing that their names and contributions would forever remain shine and be celebrated in the history of the institution.
She commended their consistent support, describing their impact as legacies that will continue to transform the University’s environment. At the same time, she emphasized COOU’s openness to more partnerships, collaborations, and initiatives as part of her mission to elevate the University to new heights.
It would be recalled that High Chief Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi had endowed a landmark building named the High Chief Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Umuawulu) Innovation Center which was commissioned during the University’s Convocation Ceremonies by the Governor of Anambra State. He is also constructing a modern Banquet Hall to further enrich the University’s facilities.
Similarly, Engr. Dr. Chidozie Mbanefo is undertaking an environmental facelift for the University through the introduction of a breathtaking waterfall, aligning with Prof. Omenugha’s vision of reclaiming and beautifying the University environment.
For Prof. Omenugha, the Abuja visit was more than a courtesy but it was a bold statement of appreciation, celebration, and a call for deeper partnerships. For COOU, more is surely coming.
