LAWSA Establishes Environmental Sustainability Committee to Strengthen COOU's 'Pick It... Don't Litter' Campaign at 23rd LAWSA Dinner

The Faculty of Law Students' Association (LAWSA) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has reinforced the University's environmental sustainability drive by constituting an Environmental Sustainability Committee to champion the Vice-Chancellor's "Pick It... Don't Litter" campaign within the Faculty. The Committee was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Omenugha, during the 23rd Annual LAWSA Dinner held on Friday at the Hollywood Event Centre.

Addressing students at the event, Prof. Omenugha described the initiative as a commendable demonstration of leadership and collective responsibility. She noted that the annual Law Dinner is an important aspect of legal education, exposing students to the etiquette, social interactions and professional conduct expected of members of the legal profession. She urged the students to uphold the values of discipline, integrity and excellence both within and outside the University.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that COOU maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice, environmental abuse and other forms of misconduct, stressing that environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility. She reminded students that the University's Senate has approved a one-year suspension for anyone found guilty of littering the campus, emphasizing that a clean environment reflects the values of a disciplined academic community.

A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of a portrait to the Vice-Chancellor by the LAWSA President, Comrade Chukwuemeka Okeke, in appreciation of her unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. Bearing the inscription "PICK IT... DON'T LITTER; Noli Sordes Facere", the portrait symbolized the Faculty's endorsement of the campaign. Professor Omenugha described the gesture as deeply inspiring, noting that the Faculty of Law had joined other units of the University in taking ownership of the environmental sustainability initiative.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Okorie, the LAWSA Executive and the entire organising committee for a successful event, expressing confidence that the newly inaugurated committee would further strengthen environmental consciousness across the Faculty. She reaffirmed the University's commitment to building a cleaner and greener campus under the guiding philosophy of Values, Viability and Visibility (3Vs).
