STUDENTS' ACCIDENT, EMERGENCY, AND SAFETY UNIT AND STUDENTS' SAFETY MARSHALL CONTINUES ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Students' Accident, Emergency, and Safety Unit, in collaboration with the Students' Safety Marshals, has persistently advanced environmental and student safety awareness initiatives across all classrooms within the University. This week, their efforts are concentrated on the University's new site.

Commander; Akamigbo chukwuemeka benedict, the leader of the Students' Safety Marshals, articulated that the primary objective is to ensure that every student is adequately informed about the laws pertaining to environmental sanitation and their safety within the University, particularly concerning security and accident prevention.

He emphasized their commitment to this cause, aligning with the initiative of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, to foster a safe university environment devoid of hazards, while promoting a space conducive to academic excellence.

A significant outcome of the second phase of this movement has been a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and the Head of the Department of History and International Studies. This pivotal meeting addressed concerns regarding the neglected state of the faculty's environment. Dr. Afamnede Godfrey commended the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture for his immediate response to cleaning efforts following their phone conversation, noting that the environment has shown some improvement since their last assessment. He urged the Dean to continue striving for further enhancements.

The Dean assured the team of his total commitment to maintaining a clean environment and expressed willingness to engage with students to further this goal.

A similar discussion was held with the Head of the Department of History and International Studies, who shares facilities with the Faculty of Agriculture. The team encouraged her to collaborate with the Dean in efforts to promote a cleaner environment. She informed the team that her department has employed personnel to maintain cleanliness in the shared building and pledged to sustain these efforts. Additionally, she promised to ensure that her students are available in large numbers next Tuesday for a special visit from the team, during which they will disseminate vital information.

Both the Dean and the department head revitalized the team’s spirit and reaffirmed their support for the movement and its resilience.

The Awareness Campaign concluded today's activities with a visit to the office of the Dean of Students Affairs, who expressed his enthusiasm for the team's initiatives. He remarked that this type of engagement is unprecedented and pledged ongoing support for the unit, also indicating his intent to provide financial incentives to sustain their commendable efforts.
