COOU MANAGEMENT DISMISSES KIDNAP RUMOURS AS PARENTS COMMIT TO IMPROVED CAMPUS SECURITY

Still on the maiden meeting of the COOU Parents Forum held on June 9, 2026, at the ETF Auditorium, issues bordering on campus security formed a major part of the discussions between the University Management and parents.

Addressing concerns raised during the meeting, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, dismissed the widely circulated rumours alleging that students had been kidnapped within the University environment.

Prof. Kate Omenugha described the reports as false and misleading, noting that they were part of deliberate attempts by certain individuals to tarnish the image and reputation of the institution through the spread of unverified information on digital platforms.

While reassuring parents that the University remains safe and secure for learning, she emphasized that the Management would not relent in its responsibility of protecting lives and property within the campus.

The Vice Chancellor further disclosed that additional measures are being considered to strengthen security across the institution, particularly the reconstruction of the collapsed section of the perimeter fence located behind the students' hostel.

According to her, restoring the damaged fence will further help prevent situations capable of generating unnecessary fears or misinformation.

Responding to the concerns, the Interim Chairman of the COOU Parents Forum, Sir Chris Chikwelu, assured the University Management of the Forum's readiness to contribute towards addressing the challenge.

He stated that the matter would be presented before members of the Forum for further deliberation, with a view to mobilizing support for the reconstruction of at least a section of the damaged fence.

The commitment formed part of the key resolutions reached during the maiden meeting of the COOU Parents Forum, reflecting a shared determination between parents and the University Management to sustain a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
