PROF. KATE AZUKA OMENUGHA DELIVERS HER REMARK ON THE FOUNDER’S DAY / 4TH CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU MEMORIAL LECTURE

The Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, earlier today, Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, delivered a compelling address at the ETF Auditorium as part of activities marking the Founder’s Day / 4th Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Lecture.

In her remarks, she noted that the University, now twenty-six (26) years old as of 2026, has every reason to reflect with pride on its modest beginnings and the remarkable progress achieved over the years. She emphasized that the institution’s journey has been one of steady growth, resilience, and continuous advancement.

According to the Vice Chancellor, both alumni of the University and employers of its graduates have consistently attested to the quality and character of COOU products, affirming that the institution remains on an upward path and continues to distinguish itself positively.

She also placed strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, calling for a renewed commitment to cleanliness across the University community. She cautioned against the persistent habit of indiscriminate littering, stressing that such conduct undermines the values of the institution and may attract disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion where necessary.

Prof. Omenugha further extended heartfelt appreciation to the Guest Speaker, the European Union Ambassador, His Excellency, Mr. Gautier Mignot; and the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, whose presence she acknowledged not only in her official capacity but also as the spouse of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in whose honour the memorial lecture is held.

She equally recognized the contributions and presence of the Chairman of the Occasion, Sir Chikwendu Ukaobasi Udensi; a friend of the University, Hon. Pascal Agbodike; Barrister Donatus Okeke, who is currently undertaking the construction of a bakery for the institution; Prof. Leonard Muoghalu, former Commissioner for Education; Prof. Ego Dike; Dr. Chris Ngige; as well as the host communities of Uli and Igbariam, whose continued support remains invaluable. Other distinguished diplomats and guests present were also duly acknowledged.

The University, she concluded, remains deeply appreciative of these individuals and institutions, recognizing that their contributions form an enduring part of its growth and legacy.
