COOU Women in Chemistry Set to Host Global Women’s Breakfast 2026

The Women in Chemistry (WIC) unit of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to host the 2026 edition of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB), an annual worldwide event aimed at promoting networking, collaboration, and inclusion among women in science.

The event, scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, will take place at the Senate Chamber, COOU Uli Campus, from 10:00am to 12:00 noon. This year’s edition is themed “Many Voices, One Science,” a message that underscores the importance of unity, diversity, and collective impact in the scientific community. Locally, the theme is beautifully echoed in Igbo as “Ọ̀TỤ̀TỤ̀ OLU, Ọ̀TỤ̀ ǸKÀ” (Many voices, One Science).

The Global Women’s Breakfast is an international initiative designed to bring together women and allies in chemistry and related disciplines to connect, share experiences, mentor one another, and strengthen professional collaborations across generations. The 2026 COOU edition will provide a platform for academics, researchers, professionals, and students to engage in meaningful discussions on advancing gender equity and inclusion in science.

According to the Coordinator of Women in Chemistry, Dr. Chinyere Emmanuella Okafor, the event aims to amplify diverse voices in science and encourage sustainable mentorship and solidarity among female scientists. She emphasized that the gathering will inspire young female scholars and create opportunities for networking and professional growth.

The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, will serve as the Chief Host of the programme, further demonstrating the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote inclusiveness and excellence in science education.
