PROF KATE AZUKA OMENUGHA SPEAKS ON THE REOPENED RADIO STATION, 106.1FM

Care to guess who made history as the first voice to go on air following the reopening of the University Radio Station, 106.1FM? Let us spare you the suspense. It was the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha herself.

What made this maiden interview particularly captivating was not merely the symbolism of her being the first guest, but the depth, clarity, and inspiration embedded in the message she shared with listeners.

During the interview, Prof. Omenugha noted that over time, her administration has worked both visibly and behind the scenes to strengthen academic standards, improve staff and student welfare, and strategically position the University for relevance in an increasingly dynamic global environment.

While acknowledging that there is still significant work ahead, she expressed pride in the collective progress the University has achieved as a united community.

She further described the reopened radio station as a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when vision is matched with commitment, consistency, and purposeful leadership.

Responding to questions on how the station intends to foster collaboration with other universities within Anambra State and beyond, Prof. Omenugha explained that the radio station would serve as a loud and clear signal of the University’s presence, capacity, and potential. According to her, by consistently showcasing what the institution can do, partnerships may naturally emerge. “someone might hear one of the things we do and reach out,” she noted, a clear demonstration of visibility in action.

Drawing from personal experience, the Vice Chancellor recalled how a single social media post once attracted the attention of the Times Higher Education Africa leadership, ultimately paving the way for the University’s consideration in the 2027 rankings. With such precedents, she expressed confidence that the radio station could achieve even greater impact.

The University remains optimistic that the radio station will serve as a strategic platform, firmly positioning the institution on its desired trajectory in the near future.
