NUC ABUJA: COOU VICE CHANCELLOR PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES COMMISSION

On Wednesday, 27th August 2025, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Omenugha, who was recently confirmed as the substantive Vice Chancellor of COOU after serving in an acting capacity for 19 months, explained that the visit was both to formally present herself to the NUC leadership and to strengthen ties between the Commission and the University. She emphasized her administration’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and institutional transformation in line with the University’s vision of being the Now University and of the Future.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, congratulated Prof. Omenugha on her confirmation and prayed for her success in office. He expressed optimism that her leadership would further reposition COOU for greater impact, especially in fostering research, technology, and manpower development to meet Nigeria’s evolving educational and developmental needs.

The meeting also provided an avenue for both leaders (as the NUC Executive Secretary has been a Vice Chancellor for up to 10 years) to share insights on the challenges and opportunities within the Nigerian university system. Prof. Omenugha used the opportunity to brief the NUC on COOU’s ongoing strides in digital transformation, international collaborations, and student-centered reforms, while seeking the Commission’s support in advancing accreditation, infrastructure, and quality assurance.

Prof. Omenugha reaffirmed her determination to steer the University toward becoming a citadel of learning that is visionary, vibrant, and value-driven, while upholding the ideals of excellence for which the institution is named.
