Brief History

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department was established consequent upon a series of applications to the university Senate by Dr Cynado Ezeogidi. At a point, he was invited by the Senate to defend the proposal for the establishment of Department of History and International Studies. That proposal was effectively defended in the Senate. Consequently, in the 101st senate, the establishment of the department was approved by the senate presided over by the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fidelis Okafor. Although the department was domiciled in the Faculty of Arts, it was situated at the Faculty of Agriculture due to lack of office space.

Soon after the establishment of the department, Prof Fidelis Okafor proceded on a Sabbatical leave. The unflinching support of the New Vice Chancellor, Prof Gregory Nwakoby paved way for a successful resource verification and growth of the Young department.
